The truth about Siberian Cats and Allergies

Siberian cats are often considered hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers.  Please note the definition of hypoallergenic above.  Siberians are know for producing LESS allergens.  That does not mean they are without allergens.

Siberian cats are known to produce lowerFel-d1 allergen proteins than an average domestic cat. This means that if you have a Fel-d1 allergy, you may respond better to Siberian.  Additionally, getting a kitten allows you to build up your immunity as they grow.  Lastly, getting your kitten altered (spayed or neutered) before they hit puberty will also help reduce the allergen production.  Unaltered cats produce higher allergen levels than the same cat would if they had been altered.  Contact us about our fur samples and allergy appointments to test your cat allergies.

We here at Serendipity Siberians are HIGHLY allergic to cats.  The women in our family suffer from asthma, hives, runny nose, itchy, swollen eyes.  You get the picture.  It isn't pretty.  And I'm not talking one or two people.  SIX females in our family are allergic to cats.  Siberians have been a great addition to our lives, but even we are careful around our cats.
